Graduate students currently enrolled at Harvard are invited to apply for fellowships for the 2020-2021 academic year. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide the student with an opportunity to carry out research in the humanities or social sciences on a topic relating to Ukraine. Criteria for selection will include the importance of the topic, the clarity of the proposal, and the potential for scholarly contribution

Eligibility:  Graduate students in all FAS departments are invited to apply, but priority will be given to those students who have completed general exams and are either developing or writing their dissertations.

Duration:  In most cases, fellowships will be awarded for one semester, but in exceptional cases, a full academic year fellowship may be awarded.

Support:  In addition to tuition and fees up to a combined maximum of $2,700.00, the fellowship provides a $5,300.00/semester stipend.

Deadline:  Friday, March 20, 2020. Decisions will be announced in mid- to late-April.

Required Documents:

  1. Completed online application form.
  2. A brief (maximum 5 pages, double-spaced) research proposal, including the background, nature, and importance of proposed research, as well as a description of the research objective and methodology uploaded with the online application form.
  3. A current curriculum vitae, including publications uploaded with the online application form.
  4. A current official transcript from the Office of the Registrar scanned and uploaded with the online application form.

In addition, the applicant must submit two letters of recommendation in signed/sealed envelopes. One letter must be from the applicant’s advisor. Original letters must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 20, 2020 for the application to be considered by the selection committee. Letters of recommendation should be sent to:
